Dementia Friends

This week Beavers had a visit from Dementia Friends as part of their A Million Hands Project. They learnt all about how the brain works and how Dementia affects everyday tasks that we take for granted. At the end of the session they talked about how they can help by raising awareness.

Challenges Galore!

As part of their Teamwork Challenge Award the oldest and youngest Cubs were set some team challenges.  Firstly they took part in the bleep test, encouraging their team and each other to keep running.  Next they played minesweeper, with the older Cubs using their team leading skills to direct the younger ones through the minefield….

Pancakes!

Beavers had fun making and eating pancakes tonight, with lots of gooey filling combinations.  We also played some team games with the parachute, and had a pancake flipping race!  

Ping Pong Challenge

This term Hessle Beavers are working towards their Skills and Teamwork Challenge badges. Tonight we challenged them to invent something that could transport a ping pong ball approximately one metre.  They could use Lego, K’nex or try their hand at some junk modelling, and we had some fantastic results.

Apache Scouts – Christmas Dinner

Apache Scouts celebrated their first Christmas in style. Working within their patrols and using different cooking methods, they worked together to plan, coordinate and cook a Christmas dinner for us all. Mini-beast Hunting

The Beavers got up close and personal with nature this week, carefully capturing mini-beasts and identify them under microscopes. They also continued their work towards the gardening badge by transferring the tomato plants they grew from seeds into hanging baskets and tackling some more of those nettles.

Annual General Meeting 2015

We once again held our AGM in conjunction with a family BBQ this year. We hope everyone enjoyed themselves in the sunshine and we thank you for attending.

Humber Rescue

As part of their World Challenge badge Hessle Beavers have to meet someone who serves in the local community – and who better than the fantastic guys at Humber Rescue.  Beavers got to try on some of the equipment, find out how they use their radios, and best of all sit on the lifeboat.

The Cubs and Parents/Guardians had a fantastic weekend at our annual & traditional dads & lads camp. All the dads joined in with the Cubs doing all the activities that included, making & cooking on open fires, Pioneering, wall climbing, raft building and a good old fashioned game of rounder’s.
