Hessle Beavers meet on a Wednesday evening from 5:45pm – 7:00pm. Our section gives children aged 6 – 8 years their first taste of scouting activities in a fun and friendly environment. The varied programme gives them the opportunity to earn a wide range of activity and challenge badges.

Ping Pong Challenge
This term Hessle Beavers are working towards their Skills and Teamwork Challenge badges. Tonight we challenged them to invent something that could transport a ping pong ball approximately one metre. Mini-beast Hunting
The Beavers got up close and personal with nature this week, carefully capturing mini-beasts and identify them under microscopes. They also continued their work towards the gardening badge by transferring the tomato plants they grew from seeds into hanging baskets and tackling some more of those nettles.
Humber Rescue
As part of their World Challenge badge Hessle Beavers have to meet someone who serves in the local community – and who better than the fantastic guys at Humber Rescue. Beavers got to try on some of the equipment, find out how they use their radios, and best of all sit on the lifeboat.

Beavers Hike along the Humber

Construction Night
This week as part of our Creative Challenge, we had a night constructing things. We made catapults out of lolly sticks and had great fun testing them out. We also used our imaginations to create vehicles and bridges out of lego.
Up in the Air!
This week the Beavers looked at all things airborne. We made paper aeroplanes, hovercrafts and helicopters. Of course at the end of the night we had to see who’s could fly the furthest and the highest!
Chocolate Cake!
Tonight we continued with activities for our Creative Challenge badge, experimenting with water, kitchen roll and felt tip pens to see how chromatography works, understanding how magnets work, and our messy bit was making cakes in mugs. We hope they all tasted as good as they looked.
Swimming up to Cubs
Also this week we said goodbye to Sam, Jacob, Edward, Ethan & Tom as they started their swim up the river to Cherokee Cubs. On the first week back the Leaders will go to Cubs to see them finish swimming up the river and renew their promise as Cubs.
