Cherokee and Arapaho spent the weekend together at Blackhills Campsite in Bradford for their Winter Camp.
We set off on Friday night, Halloween, so of course the building needed to be decorated accordingly! The Cubs went for a night hike around the site while the leaders had fun decorating. It was then supper and bed ready for Saturday’s activities.
Saturday morning started off with the usual camp breakfast of bacon butties and eggy bread, before going out to collect wood ready for cooking on on Sunday morning. We then all went off to do the mornings activities; archery and rifle shooting. We had some pretty good shots from both Cubs and Leaders! After lunch we made the fletchings for our bobbing arrows and then went out to test their flying abilities with a bit of help from Baloo! We also made firework pictures by painting over wax crayon covered paper and then scratching the paint off. Blackhills Campsite holds a campfire and firework display each year for members of scouting and the public so we made 2 Guys to add to the existing one on their huge bonfire.
Before the bonfire was lit we enjoyed some sparklers and watched the bonfire whilst eating our supper provided by the campsite. The firework display came from the top of the climbing wall with the biggest picture of Bear Grylls on ever! Back at the building it was hot chocolate and supper time before bed.
Everyone was up and ready on Sunday morning to get the fires going for cooking breakfast on. Sausage sandwiches and eggy bread were on the menu that morning. It was then time to pack up and drive back to Goole for a swim and a well needed wash before home!
The leaders hope everyone had a good time and would like to thank the Cubs for their excellent behaviour. It was so good in fact, that we had an email from the activity instructors to comment on how well behaved and polite they were. In their words the Cubs were ‘a real credit to the group and would work with them again any day’. So well done all!
